Have you gotten your library card yet? You should! Your library card is the key to a world of wonder and a ton of free resources for you to enjoy. We have books, of course, and you probably know we’ve also got movies, audiobooks, and magazines. But did you know that we have Georgia State Park Family Passes to get you into state parks free, and a backpack with nature guide booklets and binoculars that you can check out with it? Or that we can get you free Zoo Atlanta admission? That’s just the beginning of what the library has to offer – and you can have it all with your free library card!

Every Tuesday at 4 pm we have a wonderful afternoon storytime for the kids. We’ll read them a story and do a fun craft related to the story with them. This Tuesday, September 18, at 4 pm, we will have a Mr. Potato Head-themed storytime. Next Tuesday, September 25, at 4 pm, our theme will be Fall.

Our monthly Paint @ the Library adult painting class will be at 11 am on Saturday, September 22. We will be painting a magical firefly scene.

Did you know that the last week of September is Banned Books Week? This is an annual celebration of the importance of free speech and fighting censorship. Every year, the American Library Association collects a list of books that people have tried (sometimes successfully) to have taken off the shelves at libraries and bookstores. From “Harry Potter” to “The Holy Bible” from “The Kite Runner” to “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Tom Sawyer”, there are many reasons that people want to censor books, yet it is important that attempts to censor different viewpoints and hide unpleasant truths be resisted. Celebrate your First Amendment right to read with us during Banned Books Week, September 24 – September 29!
