Remember When – This Day in 1935!

Ground was broken today for the erection of the Millen Community House in the City of Millen. Wade Franklin is the supervising foreman of the job. This is the third WPA project to get underway in Jenkins County. Completion of the project is expected to come by Christmas with the weather’s cooperation.

Farmers from Jenkins County received a much greater income from Cotton in 1934 than 1932, according to S.M. Herrington, chairman of the county committee who reports the total value of cotton in 1934 was $409,580.92 more than the cotton crop of 1932.

Jesse M. Gay, former Tax Collector for Jenkins County, is found not guilty of embezzlement by jury.

The dreaded war between Italy and Ethiopia began today, in view of the League of Nations, with official reports from Ethiopia of Italian bombing of Ethiopian villages and a battle in Agama province. The League Council was officially convened Saturday morning to deal with the crisis.
