Paving of new school parking lot begins

(Staff photo by Deborah Bennett) Contractors began pouring asphalt for the parking lot of the new PreK-12 school located on Barney Avenue on Monday of this week. Work has been continuing for months with debris removal and grading in preparation for the paving of the parking lot. Hopes are high that the weather will cooperate and the project can soon be completed.

Students began the 2018- 2019 school year in the new structure, which is being funded through a Department of Education Facilities/ Division Low Wealth Grant at an estimated cost of $22 million. The local contribution for the project is expected to be $3½ million which is being funded with Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) revenue.
